Robin Sopko

Expert Guru

I was born and raised by my mother, in East Toledo Ohio, & Oregon Ohio. I have one younger brother. Seemingly a medical miracle, at birth my mother noticed a small hole in my upper back. Then at the age of 3 years, it seemed that I was unable to gain weight like I should have been..I had a twin that was miscarried before my birth, and it is thought that I may have received it's stomach, possibly through the connection that caused the hole in my back. With very little difficulty throughout my childhood to speak of except a very short neck, I was diagnosed as having a condition called "Klippel-Feil Syndrome".
I continued living in Oregon Ohio, and attended parochial grade school and high school. During the Summer of my Junior year, my family moved to Pensacola Florida to see if my mother could find work. There, I completed my Senior year, graduated early and received my diploma from my home high school.
We moved to Tyler Texas for a short period and stayed with relatives, then returned to Toledo.
I moved back to Pensacola again and it's beautiful white sand beaches, where I lived until 1986. I attended Pensacola Junior College for various classes from oil painting to creative writing, and was married to my high school sweetheart for about 5 years.
Upon the marriage failing, I again moved back to Toledo, & have lived here ever since, for over 20 years. I am the proud mother of a lovely, very talented daughter, who is the result of (another) 5 year marriage, here in Toledo. During my daughter's childhood, I enjoyed being a Daisy, Brownie & Girl Scout leader.
I attended Owens College in the study of Business Management, and I am just 4 classes (Math!) short of my Associates Degree.
For a total of 10 years, I was a certified Domestic Travel Counselor for Pensacola's Peninsula Motor Club and the Toledo Auto Club. Due to the perks of this position, I was able to travel extensively, including 3 trips to Walt Disney World, Sea World/Busch Gardens, New Orleans and the Antebellum homes of the Louisiana south, through the Black Hills, Wyoming, & Nebraska, and many driving trips north & south on Interstate 65 and 75, taking in every scenic route and attraction in between. I hope to one day run a comedic Toledo tour bus service, highlighting the ethnic neighborhoods, showcasing what settlers back in the early 1800's contributed & made Toledo what it is today. I also hope to one day live from an RV and travel back to visit many of the places I grew to love.

Until that time comes, I am very proud to be an active member in my community by coordinating our neighborhood's Block Watch program. I am amazed by my city's growth, it's multicultural opportunities, & creativity, regardless of the economic situation. Though I am disabled now, due to the problems that the Klippel-Feil Syndrome has caused me as I grow older, I am unable to enjoy many of the opportunities that a more abundant income would bring. I still enjoy the world at my fingertips, here at my computer. I look forward to sharing my knowledge and experience that I am thankful to have had throughout my 49 years, so far.
